Comments:

A 20 year veteran of Big Island music circles, 1997's Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Darlene Ahuna has been traveling the last few years. Spending some time in Nashville, she performed and recorded with many of country's top singers. This CD is her third release, and known for her classic Big Island sound, she shares the songs she loves, by people she admires and loves from her childhood. The songs span a range of era's in Hawaiian Music, from the 20's to the present.

From a musical family, she says there was always music playing in the house. Her uncle John performed for years here on Kaua'i with the Holoholo Trio and she used to travel to see him perform with her mother, who was a tour escort.

The seeds of performing were already planted at that early age and music lessons on the 'ukulele soon followed. Inspired by the legends in Hawaiian music like Hui Ohana, Aunty Genoa Keawe and Lena Mechado, she first sang with Ku`uipo Kumukahi in a group called Likelike. Now many years later, she shows the beautiful aloha spirit through this gift of songs. These songs are handed down generation to generation and singing them is a way of giving back to our ohana (family). As she says, "That's the Hawaiian In Me"!!

I love this CD - it's beautiful songs bring a smile to my face. I love to sing along with these old Hawaiian classics.
