Comments:

It's time for the voice of Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Kaumakaiwa (Lopaka) Kanaka`ole to rise and speak of today's young Hawaiian people. "Welo" honors the ancestors of the past but most definatley has today's sound. Kaumakaiwa (Lopaka) Kanaka`ole turns 13 original new songs into one of the most interesting albums to come out of Hawai`i this year.
His creative touch blends music and chant with extraordinary new interpretations that include the sounds of cello, snare drum, and harmonica blended with the ancient musical implements of Hawai`i. He is joined by special guests Robert Cazimero, Kekuhi Kanahele, and Napua Greig
Reviews:

Kaumakaiwa Kanaka`ole carries the banner of family matriarch Edith Kanaka`ole with pride and dignity. Clearly, "Welo" will be a beacon for others to admire, adopt and follow; it's loaded with exquiste chants, mele and stories, all told in the native Hawaiian tongue, but eloquent and inventive in execution. This is an inspired primer on preserving and perpetuating things and themes Hawaiian, with surprises and treats galore....Wayne Harada, Honolulu Advertiser
