Comments:

In this nostalgic glance at some of his musical memories, Hula legend, and founder of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, Uncle George shares his most cherished musical souvenirs. Hula Master George Na`ope began his recording career in 1949 with 49th State Records. He toured widely in the U.S. and Europe with the Royal Hawaiian Review, which also recorded several 78 rpm disks. His new CD titled "Among My Hawaiian Souvenirs" is a nostalgic glimpse at his cherished keepsakes that allows us to enjoy with him the music that he holds closest to his heart. Now, at the age of 76, Uncle George has begun a project that will raise funds for the creation and ongoing support for creating a hula archive, HO Lani, that will preserve the many songs, chants and dances of Hawaii Island in a historic building located in Kona, on the island of Hawaii. What I want to do is make an archive for hula, to honor all of the master hula teachers and their work from this island only. this archive. The undertaking includes the production of this and several other CDs, hula instructional videos of chants and mele from each of the Islands districts, and development of Travel to Learn the Hulas of Hawai`i Island educational tours. Your purchase of this CD contributes to this effort and collection.
